Here's Tanner's interview in full

Tanner, welcome to Stunning Men and a big thank you for taking the time to do the interview. You are from Texas, USA …
Yes, I am from Houston, Texan born and bred!

First thing first ... how did you get into modelling?
So it’s actually funny how it started. I was at Texas A&M studying petroleum engineering and I was not enjoying it one bit. I had lunch with my current mentor who is a big time internet marketer. He encouraged me to leave school to model and start my own fitness business because he believed I could make a substantial amount of money and be very successful. So I left school, got in contact with some local photographers around Houston and things really just picked up from there.

What do you think is the most fulfilling thing about modelling?
Meeting top photographers and models as well as the travelling. I literally get to travel across the U.S. and have begun shooting with some of the best and it is so much fun. It also is nice to hear people praise your physique every once in a while as well.

How comfortable are you in showing off your physique in a shoot?
Pretty comfortable. I come from a high school and college football background, so typically there could be anywhere from 100-125 guys in the locker room at one time so to me it’s not a big deal. However I will never do any nudes because that would hurt my business and embarrass my family. I have no problem with people who do choose to do that, but it’s not for me.

You are looking absolutely amazing. How on earth did you get into such shape?
Well like I said I have a football background. I actually started lifting at the age of 12 years old. I never dieted but I lifted as hard as I possibly could to gain as much size as possible. Then when football finally ended around the age of 21, I started to lift solely to enhance my physique and for modelling etc. Combined with dieting and the fact that I haven’t had any football injuries, practices or games to slow down my progress my body has really started to respond.

When did your passion for fitness start?
Since a young age I had always been very passionate about sports. I had the same dream as probably every other kid to play in the NFL. When that did not materialise for me I had to find a new hobby that excited me as much as football, which turned out to be fitness. So transitioning to what I do now was actually very simple.

What keeps you determined and driven to work out?
Well because I model now I always am striving to improve my physique for upcoming shoots or events. Also I am starting my own fitness business where I will be shooting videos all the time. So I definitely am motivated to constantly look good so that I can continue to get modelling gigs as well as inspire people to get into fitness. It’s hard to inspire people to get in shape unless you are yourself already.

What is your diet like?
It’s all about calories in versus calories out. If I want to shred up and lose weight I lower calories and vice versa if I’m trying to gain size. In short it’s constantly changing depending on my goals.

If you had a cheat day, what would be your favourite food?
Pizza or sushi is the way to go. Just depends on my mood but both of those are some of favourites.

Can you share your fitness regimen with us?
I train 6 days a week, (sometimes more if I’m against the wall for a shoot or something). I try to hit every body part at least twice a week with one of the days being heavier, while the other is a bit lighter and geared towards accumulating a lot of volume.

And what’s the best form of cardio for you?
HITT (High Intensity Interval Training) is typically the best for maintaining the most muscle mass on a cut. It’s also shorter, which is a plus for those who hate cardio. But honestly typically I do a lot of StairMaster when dieting just for the fact that I am so tired and exhausted by the end of my lifting session that I couldn’t do HITT cardio properly.

Now a few quick fun questions if we may? Do you think you are a good date?
Oh of course, just look at me! (Tanner laughs out loud) Just kidding. Uh I try to be. The funny thing about being in the fitness industry is you realise how temporary a good physique is. If you get hurt or stop working out even for a few weeks you can lose serious progress. So with that in mind I do try to treat women like queens and to the best of my ability because if looks is all you have then it’s going to be a lonely life. Apparently I’m not doing too good right now though because I’m still single! (Tanner is Laughing His Ass Off!)

That I find difficult to believe!

Now what’s your favourite song or piece of music to play while training or running?
It’s gotta be hip hop or rap typically. I just can’t get pumped up to workout listening to something mellow or country. I don’t necessarily have a favourite song but I do like the artists Wiz Khalifa and Drake.

Do you have any other passions besides fitness?
I play some piano, I love watching all kinds of movies, and I’m hoping to open some type of training facility one day where I can bring in the top coaches and athletes all to one place.

What can’t you live without?
My family, and then a goal or purpose. I am a very driven individual and without a purpose or goal to wake up to and go after each day life becomes very dull to me. Life is about helping others and pushing yourself to the limit and becoming great. No one is going to hand it to you though, you have to take it.

Could you finish these two sentences for us? You wouldn’t know, but I’m very good at …
… school. Most people think because I enjoy fitness so much that I would be pretty dumb. But I actually never had below a 3.5 GPA all throughout college. And for those who don’t know petroleum engineering is very difficult. (Tanner laughs again)

Now ... I’m just not very good at …
… being patient. Definitely one of my weak points and something I’m trying to work on this year and for the future. Usually we get impatient when we think only about ourselves so I am really just trying to focus on putting others feelings and needs before my own.

One last question Tanner, what is your big dream?
I want to become a fitness icon and grow my business to the point where I am a millionaire. The reason being is I come from a huge family and I want to be able to do nice things for them and take care of them without any worry.

Tanner, it has been a real pleasure to interview you! Thank you for your time and for being such good sport. All the best for the future
