 Here's Jay's full interview

Jay, welcome to Stunning Men and a big thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Could we start off by talking a little about yourself? You currently live in Aurora Colorado, what's it like for you there?

Aurora has been my home now for over ten years and for the most part, it has been really good to me. I moved out here from California to be closer to family.

Do you have a career or are you in school? If so, what do you study?
I don’t have a full time career, but would love to be an actor! I do go to school though at the Art Institute of Colorado for game art and design.

You have a great physique. I imagine your work as a student and artist keeps you busy! What keeps you fit?

I usually try to watch what I eat. Most of the time I eat healthy and make good choices that won’t affect me later. For working out, I really don’t have a strict routine because I try to switch it up and confuse my body to constantly work hard. My key to staying fit is staying busy.

And beside your gym work, how do you keep in shape and healthy? Do you practice any sport?

I don’t practice a sport, but I was always interested in body building; proportions by sculptors of  ancient times who carved out master physiques from stone. I think my drawing, modeling and acting interests came from my love of art and from the beauty of the human body.

What are your top three favourite gym exercises and why?

I love to do bench press because it really feels like you against the world. With all my might I push the weight and when I succeed, it is a feeling of achievement and will. My back would be second, because when my back is pumped full of blood and just swollen with power it makes my entire attitude change from low, to accomplished.

And what’s the best form of cardio for you?

For cardio I love to swim, but as of late the weather has been making that a little difficult. So I have been doing walking and running, and of course outside activities of any kind.

Now how do you keep motivated?

Motivation is the hardest part of anything. Motivation is what drives you and how I find that is by the people around me. The people that support me and the decisions I make with my life. If the people you care about don’t believe in you, then it makes it so much harder to keep that motivation.

Is it difficult to fit training and fitness into your life?

Not even a little. It has become a part of me and plan to do it till the die I’m no longer here!

Now what about modelling? How did it happen?

My friends from high school told me that I should be an underwear model. I thought it was a horrible idea at the time. I didn’t think I had the potential for anything like that. Then I really had my heart set on acting. When I was finally out of high school I went to a park with a friend who took pictures of me. I put them up on an online portfolio and a lot of people liked my look. I soon began to work with professional photographers and the next thing I know other attention came my way. Sometime thereafter I was discovered by Lamont Pinckney of Crew Models International, who signed me and put me on a path toward professional modeling.

What do you enjoy the most about it?

I enjoy creating art. I love to draw, but modeling to me is no different to that. I want to create great images that people can really appreciate. Classy, and very artistic is what I want all of my pictures to have. After all, what is the fun of having a bunch of pictures of yourself if nobody likes them.

Let’s talk about photo shoots ... how do you prepare for them?

I prepare for photo shoots to the best of my ability. I watch what I eat, I watch what I drink, what I do, everything. I make sure that I’m coming in as my best and not like I don’t care about the work. If you love to do something, then you will do whatever it takes to make sure you do your best, this includes studying poses and facial expressions to improve.

I have to say that you are a stunning looking guy – what do you think are your best asset?

I appreciate the kind words, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I were to put a label on my best features, it would have to be my eyes as number one and for number two my ability to build really fast. I did get gifted with great genetics from two great people: my mom and dad.

And if you could change one thing about your body, what would that be?

Sometimes my right shoulder gives me problem. If I sleep on it or work it out too hard, it feels really painful. Most of the time I have to warm up the joint and kind of baby it till it gets loose enough to work out. That would be one thing I could live without!

How do you approach a challenge?

I approach every challenge with all of my might. I don’t like to lose, or fail, especially if it is something I’ve been working really hard on. I treat every challenge like it would be my last challenge, the challenge that everyone would remember me for. So I take it that serious and put everything I have to offer to be victorious.

What do you do in your down time?

In my down time I stay busy. Lately there has been some money problems with my family and I try to do all that I can for them. Usually I’ll find myself either working, researching current events, or drawing portraits of people.

Do you have any role models? People who inspire you?

Hugh Jackman is by far one of the greatest inspirations I’ve had since I was a child. His first major roll was Wolverine for crying out loud. The guy can sing, dance, he’s a family guy, and has done Broadway. What more can I say about the guy? He’s really accomplished. I’ve always felt like we have a bit in common for the attitude we have towards things.

Now a few quick fun questions if we may? Do you think you are a good date?

I’m a good date. I love to be myself and usually this means you will be smiling and laughing the majority of the time. I’m a bit humorous when I want to be.

What do you think is the secret to a good relationship?

Not to be cliché but seriously, the thing I’ve seen ruin a lot of relationships is communication. Not just talking to one another, but understanding one another. Knowing where each other is coming from is the most important. After all if you listen to a bunch of information but don’t know how to process it, what good is that information to you?

Are you a brief man or a boxer kinda guy?

I love boxers; the constrictions of briefs are not comfortable to me. I like to feel free within clothing, not constricted by them.

What do you listen to on your iPod?

I got a wide range of music on my IPod. My favorite band is Deep Purple, but I listen to a lot of things from my child hood that I grew up listening to. Tupac, Metallica, Ice Cube, The Beatles, Eminem, Bon Jovi, and for work outs: Eluveitie. a Swiss folk metal band from Winterthur, Zurich . What can I say, my music choices may make no sense to others, but every song has a personal purpose on my play list.

Your favourite song or piece of music to play while training or running?

You can never go wrong with some Five Finger Death Punch, Rob Zombie, Ozzy, Metallica, Eluveitie, Disturbed. I could go on forever as far as my favorite music that gets me motivated.

What kind of movies do you like?

I love comedies. They are by far the best, but a second closest would be action. Not that I have anything against romantic films. I would just rather be romantic than watch others do it. It seems too boring to watch others fall in love when most of the world is out there trying to find their soul mate.

What can’t you live without?

I can live without anything other than my family. They are my only reason for being. Without them I wouldn’t be here to have this interview. I would give everything if I had to for them. That is why I try so hard.

You wouldn’t know, but I’m very good at...

I was physically built like a ninja. I can manoeuvre as much as a Jackie Chan around obstacles, but at the same time, I’m really good with Math, and know so much about animals, I could tell you facts you would most likely only see in an encyclopedia.

I’m just not very good at...

Sometimes I have a hard time saying what I really want to say. I have the thought in my head, but the words just come out funny. People look at me as if what I just said was crazy! Then I have to rephrase the best way I can so not to offend anyone with something I didn’t mean to say. I guess I am awkward at articulating things sometimes.

What’s the best thing ever invented?

Inventions are a dime a dozen and change with the wind. I don’t really look for inventions that are great, but inventors. Creative minds are more important than the light bulb, or other things that are very common now days.

What three words describe you best?

Strength, Honor, Loyalty

One last question Jay, where do you see yourself and what would you like to be doing in 10 years time?

I would like to be in a movie with Hugh Jackman on the big screen. Not for the fame or the fortune or anything like that, but to create a work of art and prove to myself that a person from the streets of California with nothing could work really hard and make dreams come true. I want to be happy with my life, not look back and say, I didn’t try hard enough!

Jay, it has been a real pleasure to interview you! Thank you for your time and for being a good sport. All the best for the future!

Thank you for this great exposure opportunity. I also want to thank Robert Rice for his expertise and talent in capturing me in the photos here and lastly again to Lamont Pinckney of Crew Models International for his committed support in making so many things happen for me.
